SAE AS9100 Quality Systems - Aerospace - Model for Quality Assurance in Design, Development, Production, Installation and Servicing
The latest edition (Revision C) of AS9100 has just been published in January 2009. Most organization should be able to upgrade to the new standard in 2010.
SAE AS9100 is the quality system requirements for suppliers to the aerospace industry issued August of 2001. It was developed in the United States as AS 9000 in 1997, expanded to address international aerospace requirements and is now approved by aerospace companies in Asia and Europe as well.
The Standard has approximately 80 additional requirements plus other requirements and 18 amplifications of the ISO 9001 Standard.
This book or requirements was developed by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) and is technically equivalent to AECMA prEN 9100 for European aerospace suppliers.

Note: AS9100 and a number of its supporting documents are expected to be revised and issued in the last quarter of 2008 and first quarter of 2009. Although the document will incorporate the new changes to ISO 9001 and additional changes focused on continuous improvement of the aerospace and defense industry.
Intent
The intent is to achieve significant improvements in quality and reductions in cost throughout the value stream or
supply chain.
Applicability
The aerospace customers are placing the requirement for conformance on their suppliers. It primarily pertains to aerospace part and/or process suppliers.
